Keyboard Shortcuts
Navigate faster with keyboard shortcuts for every calendar action.
Why Keyboard Shortcuts?
Keyboard shortcuts let you navigate the calendar, switch views, and manage events without lifting your hands from the keyboard. Once you learn a few key combinations, you'll move through your schedule significantly faster than with a mouse alone.
Press ? on any calendar page to open the shortcuts help dialog — a quick reference you can check anytime.
View Switching
Instantly jump between calendar views with a single key press. No need to reach for the view toggle in the header.
These shortcuts work from anywhere on the calendar page, whether you're browsing events or have the sidebar open.
Calendar Navigation
Move through dates and periods without scrolling or clicking arrows.
The arrow keys adapt to your current view. In Day view, they step one day. In Week view, one week. In Month view, one month.
Context-Aware Navigation
Arrow key behavior changes based on your active view. The shortcuts always move by the logical period you're looking at, so left arrow in Week view goes back one full week, not one day.
Event Actions
Interact with events directly from the keyboard. Select an event first by navigating to it with Tab or arrow keys.
Creating Events Quickly
Press N to open the event creation form. The form defaults to the currently visible date and a reasonable time slot, so you can start typing the event title immediately.
Editing and Deleting
Navigate to an event and press Enter to open its detail view. From there you can edit any field. Press Delete or Backspace to remove an event — Planim will ask for confirmation before deleting.
The Delete shortcut only works when an event is focused. If no event is selected, pressing Delete has no effect.
Focus Navigation
Use Tab and arrow keys to move focus between events on the calendar grid.
When an event is focused, its card is highlighted with a visible outline. This outline is designed to be clear for all users, including those using high-contrast themes.
Dialog and Form Shortcuts
These shortcuts work inside event dialogs and forms.
Use Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter on Mac) to save an event quickly without clicking the save button.

Accessibility and Screen Readers
Planim's calendar is built with WAI-ARIA standards. Every event card includes an ARIA label describing the event title, time, and participant count. The calendar grid uses role="grid" with proper row and cell roles so screen readers can announce position context.
Screen Reader Support
Events are announced as "Meeting title, 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 4 participants" when focused. Navigation actions are announced with live regions so you always know which date or period you've moved to.
Focus indicators use a visible outline that meets WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements. Color is never the only means of conveying information — event types use both color and shape (team color + tag dots).
If you use a screen reader, we recommend Day or Week view for the most detailed time slot announcements. Month view provides a condensed overview.
Five Shortcuts That Save You 10 Minutes a Day
If you learn just five shortcuts, these give you the biggest time savings:
- T (Today) — instantly jump back to today instead of scrolling through weeks of history
- N (New event) — skip the click on "Create Event" and go straight to the form
- W / D (View switch) — toggle between Week overview and Day detail without touching the header
- Ctrl+Enter (Save) — submit the event form without moving your mouse to the Save button
- ? (Help) — forgot a shortcut? Open the reference without leaving the calendar
The habit that sticks: Start with T and N — they're the most natural. Once those feel automatic, add view switching with D and W. Within a week, you'll navigate your calendar significantly faster.
